LIVING 2

The Soul (2020) is a wonderful movie for all ages. It follows Joe Gardner, a middle-school music teacher who suddenly gets the offer to teach full-time, his mother, Libba, urges him to accept, however, he wins an audition at Dorothea Williams’ quartet, giving him the opportunity to fulfill his dreams of becoming a jazz pianist. Due to his excitement and carelessness, he falls down a manhole in the middle of the road and passes away — landing him in a spot called “The Great Beyond”. Unwilling to die, he manages to pass through and get to “The Great Before”, also called the “You Seminar”, a dimension where new souls are prepared for life under the guidance of multiple counselors, all of whom are named Jerry. There, Joe meets 22, a stubborn soul who hasn’t managed to find her “spark” yet.

The spark can be interpreted as the meaning of life itself. In a crazy twist of events, Joe and 22 end up back on earth, with 22 accidentally coming into possession of Joe’s body, while Joe’s soul lands in the body of a therapy cat. 22 settles in Joe’s body, finding enjoyment around trivial things, such as getting a haircut, eating pizza and walking around town with no purpose. As the day comes to an end, they find Moonwind, a sign twirler who promises to bring them back to their respective bodies and places, but 22 refuses to leave just now and flees. Terry, the guide in charge of the counts around “The Great Beyond” realizes her counts are off, and she quickly scurries to find 22 and Joe, which she ends up doing meanwhile 22 tries to escape.

LIVING BEYOND PURPOSE-IMAGE

Terry disconnects both from reality, bringing them back to “The Great Before”. Distraught, 22 realizes her earth pass is complete, meaning she has already found her spark. Joe, however, insists that this is a result of living in someone else’s body for a while and is not a real purpose. I believe this movie hold a beautiful meaning, and it’s about not losing yourself trying to find your “spark”, as it can be easily found in the small joys of life, which, despite its difficulty, is beautiful. Deep down, I consider this movie to be one of the best movies Disney Pixar has released in the past decade, even though it wasn’t well received at the box office. Regardless of how much money it did or didn’t make, I wholeheartedly agree that this movie can be an awesome and inspiring metaphor for the joys of existence without a direct purpose.

TO UNDERSTAND THE FUTURE, WE MUST COMPREHEND THE PAST: THE PALEONTOLOGICAL OPPORTUNITIES LATIN AMERICA IS LOSING

How is it possible that fossils extracted with an invaluable history of millions of years end up looted, deteriorated, or illegally trafficked while paleontologists and scientists struggle to obtain financial support?

It is important to know that paleontology is a branch of geology that studies fossils to understand the history and evolution of life on Earth. It is a highly recognized science worldwide because it has a major presence in entertainment, such as movies and documentaries, and it sparks great interest in children. Latin America possesses one of the most important paleontological heritages in the world, but unfortunately, all these cultural riches are being wasted due to deterioration, looting, and illegal trafficking. In Colombia, places like Villa de Leyva are seeing the recognition of these invaluable items diminished, as they are viewed as mere "old objects."The Problem is Not Resources, It Is Support Countries like Argentina, Brazil, and Colombia have the wealth and heritage but lack the resources. Scientists and paleontologists work with little information and financial aid; these problems exist due to the lack of social and economic interest given to this type of research. A large portion of these investigations are maintained by universities with limited resources, including the great efforts of the Colombian Geological Service.

THE PALEONTOLOGICAL OPPORTUNITIES LATIN AMERICA IS LOSING - IMAGE

The solution to this problem lies in implementing new technologies to help preserve cultural heritage, as paleontology—with the help of archaeology—allows us to discover our origins through fossil analysis. There is an event called the “First Lego League”, which took place this year on March 28, 2026, at the "Colegio el Minuto de Dios" campus. It gathered middle and high school students from across the region, where each school presented innovative solutions to these problems, including research projects and functional prototypes. This shows us that the issue is not a lack of solutions, but rather a lack of support.

We Must Raise Awareness to Turn Potential into Reality

In conclusion, Latin American countries, specifically Colombia, have great geological potential. With sustainable investment, good infrastructure, and a national strategy, Colombia could approach being a world power through paleontology. We must reflect on both the living and fossilized biodiversity in our country and take actions that truly create change. Even though these technologies are expensive, they are completely worth it for the protection of Latin American history and cultural heritage.

LEGALIZATION 2

The beginning of 2026 marked a historic contradiction regarding women’s rights in Afghanistan; it was carried out through the approval of the penal code that not only normalizes domestic violence but also reduces the penalty for domestic violence and turns it into a legalized practice protected under male authority. This policy does not implement public debate and independent courts; it generates extreme vulnerability for women, where protection for the aggressors is evident, and not for the victims.

From the ethical perspective and the influence of human rights, a clear lack of morality and humanity is evident based on the new Taliban penal code. Instead of providing due protection for women, it legalizes domestic abuse by allowing men to physically punish their wives and daughters, as long as they do not leave visible marks, and if they do cause them the punishment does not go beyond 15 days in prison. This treaty ignores international laws and treaties that protect women’s rights. Organizations such as UN Women and Amnesty International have stated that the code “institutionalizes gender apartheid” and violates principles of equality and non-discrimination. Gender-based violence must be treated as a serious crime, but in this case the State evades equal protection of the population.

In addition, the code places religious interpretation above any international protocol, causing society to be forced to respect the new penal code, while 48% of the Afghan population (women) tries to report and ends up exposed not only to new punishments, but also to criticism from those who hold a different stance. Human rights organizations and shelters have collected testimonies from women who, out of fear, do not report, do not speak out, and do not go out into the street; international reports highlight that the imposed regulation not only reduces sentences, but also eliminates domestic violence as a criminal offense. Despite the fact that Afghan women have no limitations, the collective voice and organizations have raised alarms, demanding that a code that protects animals more than people not be legitimized.

THE LEGALIZATION OF VIOLENCE - IMAGE

In conclusion, the new code is an explicit message that women’s lives and bodies matter less than obedience to a religion and male domination. Legalizing violence under the pretext of “discipline” reveals a lack of humanity and respect for the person; that is where we ask ourselves: to what extent do we accept religion being used to justify abuse? Defending women’s rights is not “meddling in religion,” but protecting the minimum dignity of every person.

SPORTS 2

The Sports are a very important activity for people’s health and well-being. Nowadays, many young people spend too much time connected to social media and cell phones, leaving physical activity aside. Practicing a sport helps young people stay healthy during their growth, improves discipline, reduces stress, and also helps them have better relationships with other people. Practicing a sport helps improve many aspects of life. First, it strengthens the body and improves physical health, preventing diseases and problems such as overweight. In addition, it helps maintain good mental health, since exercising can make people feel happier and more relaxed. On the other hand, sports teach important values such as respect, responsibility, teamwork, and perseverance. Many young people find in sports a healthy way to use their free time and stay away from bad habits. In my opinion, sports should be more supported in schools and communities because they benefit both the physical and emotional health of people. In addition, when practicing sports, the body releases endorphins, known as the happiness hormones, which help improve mood, reduce stress, and increase energy. Science has shown that practicing sports has many benefits, such as: Reducing anxiety and depression while improving mood and self-esteem. Improving cognitive functions such as attention, working memory, and mental flexibility, as well as helping people sleep better. Increasing energy, functional capacity, and independence in adults; and supporting physical and cognitive development in children and teenagers. Promoting healthy habits such as good nutrition and sleep, tolerance to stress, and better social adaptation. Sports help a lot, not only young people but people of all ages. Practicing sports improves both physical and mental health.

In addition, it helps distract the mind and prevents people from spending too much time using electronic devices, which can become addictive. Likewise, sports allow people to have fun, learn, and work as a team, teaching important values such as solidarity and companionship. Sports also help improve people’s social lives, making them more active and supportive of others around them.
